About this work

Ornamental cartouche with two putti above holding medallions aloft, with lyre-playing nymphs on the left, portraits of religious dissenters (John Wycliffe, Jan Hus, Jerome of Prague and Magister Parisiensis) on the right. In the middle of the cartouche a medallion with Saul throwing a spear at David, who tries to cheer him up with lyre music.
