About this work
The fire in the Old Town Hall of Amsterdam and some adjacent buildings on 7 July 1652. To illustrate the old and new methods of fire-fighting. On the left, an attempt is made to extinguish the fire with buckets and ladders; on the right, the fire is fought with fire engines. With handwritten four-line inscription in Dutch and French and handwritten letters on the image. Later states (with the letter) are plate 3 in Jan van der Heyden's Fire Engine Book.
