About this work

Performance of a play scene written by P.C. Hooft by the Amsterdam rederijkerskamer De Eglentier on the Dam during the celebration of the Twelve Years' Truce on 5 May 1609. In the center a large depiction of the stage with scenery and audience. Around it nine smaller scenes taken from the history of Lucretia, Tarquinius and Brutus, each with a two-line verse. The last depiction shows Liberty surrounded and protected by the seven provinces.
