About this work

Allegory of Liberty, 1795. Liberty sits on a hill in the open field while Time offers her an eternal empire, a siren crowns her, and Peace leans on her. To the right a French hussar leads the liberated Dutchman to freedom. In the background tyrants are driven off by the advancing (French) army. Explanation of the scene in a five-line inscription. See also the pendant.
