About this work
Allegory on the political situation in the year 1636. Left Frederick Henry tramples as protector of the Dutch Garden the monster Discord. In front of the gate of the garden the Dutch Lion with drawn sword represents the vigilance of the States-General. Right Cardinal Ferdinand who with an axe has cut away part of the enclosure to free the snake (Wesel, 's-Hertogenbosch and Maastricht). In the sky clouds with the tetragram and the hands of God. At the bottom of the print a text sheet is attached with the title and a poem in 2 columns.
