About this work

Allegory on the Peace of Nijmegen and other events in the year 1678. In the center, a small depiction of the oath-taking performed by two bound prisoners and the arms of Spain, France, and the Republic. Surrounding them stand the main players: Louis XIV, Charles II of England, and William III before the Temple of Janus, upon which portrait medallions of seven German princes are placed. Below, an open space intended for the almanac of 1679. At the bottom, several small scenes, including the Battle of Saint-Denis.
