About this work

The boats are taken out of the water, 17 June 1597. The two sick, Willem Barendsz and Claes Andriesz Goutijk, lie under blankets on the ice. In the foreground provisions, barrels and oars. Copies of the original illustrations in the travel report of the voyage of Willem Barendsz and Jacob van Heemskerck in 1596-1597 and the stay on the island of Nova Zembla, No. 23.
