About this work

The destruction of the Spanish galleys in the Channel off the Flemish coast by the States fleet under Vice-Admiral Jacob van Duivenvoorde, Lord of Obdam, 3 October 1602. Large composition consisting of three sheets. Right sheet: a galley is sinking, to the right a group of five Dutch ships; at the bottom, the Flemish coast near the cities of Ostend and Sluis; Ostend is depicted with a plan. Bottom right: a cartouche with signature and privilege, decorated with a river god and fish. With a four-column caption in Latin.
