About this work
A soldier, full-length, facing right, holding a musket (a specific type of firearm) with his left hand. With the thumb and middle finger of his right hand, he places the burning match on the hammer (part of the ignition mechanism) of his musket in the correct position and shape, ca. 1645. Printed on the reverse with text in French. Free after plate 9 in the instructions for handling the musket in the Wapenhandelinghe by J. de Gheyn. Military affairs around 1600.
