About this work

A soldier, full-length, facing right, holding a musket (a specific type of firearm) and a fork (musket fork) with his left hand. With his right hand, he loosens the burning match lying on the hammer (part of the ignition mechanism) of his musket, ca. 1645. Printed on the reverse with text in French. Free after plate 14 in the instructions for handling the musket in the Wapenhandelinghe by J. de Gheyn. Military affairs around 1600.
