About this work

A soldier, full-length, facing right, closing the pan (the powder reservoir) of his musket (a specific type of firearm) with his right hand. In his left hand, besides the musket, a fork (musket fork) and a burning match, ca. 1645. Printed on the reverse with text in French. Free after plate 18 in the instructions for handling the musket in the Wapenhandelinghe by J. de Gheyn. Military affairs around 1600.
