About this work
The tongue sharpeners, 1689. Satirical print on King James II and the Catholics in England. In a workshop, tongues that are thick and black from lying and slander are being sharpened. On the right, a basket of tongues, including the tongues of James II and Father Peters, who has just arrived from London, is overturned. On the sheet below the print is a text printed in two columns.
