The tongue sharpeners, 1705. In a workshop tongues that are thick and black from lying and slander are sharpened. To the right a basket of tongues is overturned. On an anvil in the foreground a priest's tongue struck by the seven arrows of the Republic. Sheet no. 9 in the series of 13 sheets with caricatures on the Jesuits titled Roma Pertubata, 1707. Part of the print work published under the collective title 't Lust-Hof van Momus with the bound series of caricatures during the years 1701-1713 of the War of the Spanish Succession.
