About this work
The tongue sharpeners, 1705. In a workshop, tongues that are thick and black from lying and slander are being sharpened. To the right, a basket of tongues is overturned. On an anvil in the foreground, a papal tongue struck by the seven arrows of the Republic. Ninth sheet in the series of 10 sheets with satirical prints on the Jesuits titled Roma Pertubata, 1706.
