About this work
Allegory on the failure of the Second Jacobite Rising in 1746. The young pretender Charles Edward Stuart flees from the British Hercules and chooses the hare's path to a ready post coach. The pretender in armor with a long coat and a rosary around his waist. To the right, on a rocky peak, the French rooster crows. In the plate, several Latin inscriptions, at the bottom two six-line verses in Dutch.
