About this work

View of the Dam with the Town Hall, the New Church, the Waag, and the Damrak, with the civic guard firing into the ranks of the crowding spectators on the Dam, 28 June 1748. Hanging from the Waag are the bodies of the executed man and woman (Piet van Dort and the lemon and dried cod seller Mat van den Nieuwendijk) for their role in the Tax Farmers' Riot. Below the print, a description of the events in two columns.
