About this work

Caricature on the war between the Republic and England and the glorious past of Holland, ca. 1780. The Dutch Lion awakens as an Englishman tries to beg from him. Centrally, a Hollander mourns the loss of his capital. To the side, a Batavian in armor points to Tromp and De Ruyter in the clouds. On the sheet below the plate, an explanation of the numbers 1-12.
