About this work

View from the coast through a kind of stone portal or triumphal arch of the fight between the Dutch and English ships during the Battle of Dogger Bank on 5 August 1781 between the Dutch fleet under Rear-Admiral Johan Zoutman and the English fleet under Vice-Admiral Hyde Parker. On the building stand three vases, further decorated with Dutch flags and ship attributes hanging from a line. Also on the beach various attributes, on the right a man with two cannons. On the sheet below the print a description of the battle in two columns. Below that a schematic map of filets with the battle orders of the fleets with explanation.
