Satirical print on the fraud with a false balance scale by the firm C. de Bruyn & Zonen, 1834. The firm owned the first steam sugar refinery on the Lijnbaansgracht in Amsterdam. On January 8, 1834, they were caught using a balance with an extended arm. On the left, the false balance hangs from the facade of the factory. On the steam balance, two gentlemen are being weighed, with several people standing nearby. In the background, De Bruyn flees from the Stock Exchange to a house on the Rokin.
