About this work

Four scenes grace this bowl: a scholar with two servants and a man with a fan addressing him; a warrior raising his sword, with two soldiers and a supplicant; three figures in an interior; a man asleep at a table. It is not clear what they are meant to depict, however these scenes may derive from a print illustrating a popular play.
