About this work

Egg-shaped lidded pot of porcelain with ribbed wall and flat lid, painted in underglaze blue. In the ribbed wall four medallions are cut out with here women (long dresses) in a garden with trees and rocks or in an interior, dancing or playing 'go'. Around the foot and the shoulder a band with flower branches. The rim of the lid with flower branches, the top with three scholars and a servant on an enclosed terrace. Marked on the underside with the horizontal six-character mark of Emperor Chenghua in a double circle. Blue and white.
