About this work

Bottle-shaped vase (knobbed bottle) of porcelain, painted in underglaze blue and on the glaze in blue, red, green, yellow, aubergine, black, and gold. The body is covered with butterflies and flowering plants on a black speckled ground, with two rectangular cartouches carved out containing a bird on a magnolia branch among flowering plants and two figures in a river landscape with rocks, trees, and a pavilion; the neck with a decoration in underglaze blue of a band with lacework alternating with a cartouche with a flower in reserve, above that a band with French point with flower scrolls in reserve alternating with a flower branch, on the neck flower branches with above that a band with hanging leaf motifs with flower scrolls in reserve. A crack in the rim. Famille verte.
