About this work

A soldier, full-length, facing right, with a musket (a certain type of firearm) resting on his left shoulder (no. 1), ca. 1600. In his left hand, besides the stock of the musket, a burning match cord. Plate 1 from the instructions for handling the musket. Part of the illustrations in: J. de Gheyn, Wapenhandelinghe van Roers Musquetten ende spiessen, Amsterdam, 1608. Military affairs around 1600.
