About this work

A soldier, full-length, facing right, placing a musket (a specific type of firearm) on his left shoulder with his right hand, the barrel pointing upward (no. 32), ca. 1600. In his outstretched left hand, a lit match (with smoke in this second state). Plate 32 in the instructions for handling the musket. Part of the illustrations in: J. de Gheyn, Wapenhandelinghe van Roers Musquetten ende spiessen, Amsterdam, 1608. Military affairs around 1600.
