About this work

A soldier, full-length, facing right, holding a musket (a specific type of firearm) in his right hand, the barrel pointing upward, before placing the weapon on his left shoulder (no. 31), ca. 1600. In his outstretched left hand, a lit match. Plate 31 in the instructions for handling the musket. Part of the illustrations in: J. de Gheyn, Wapenhandelinghe van Roers Musquetten ende spiessen, Amsterdam, 1608. Military affairs around 1600.
