A soldier, full-length, facing right, holding a musket (a specific type of firearm) with his right hand, the barrel pointing upwards, before placing the weapon on his left shoulder (no. 31), ca. 1600. In his outstretched left hand he holds a lit match. Plate 31 in the instructions for handling the musket: Brief enseignement, sur la representation des figures, du droit maniement de l'Harquebuse.
