About this work
A soldier, full-length, facing right, holding a musket (a specific type of firearm) with his right hand, the barrel pointing upwards, before placing the weapon on his left shoulder (no. 31), ca. 1600. In his outstretched left hand a burning match. Plate 31 from the instructions for handling the musket: Corte onderwysinghe op de figuerliicke afbeeldinghe, belanghende t'rechte ghebruyck des Roers.
