Conquest of Tournai, 1709

Tournai (Doornik), besieged by the Allies from 29 June 1709 and captured on 2 September 1709. The central representation of the siege framed in an architectural border. Top, an eagle with a cartouche containing a plan of the city and a young prince (probably Charles III) trampling Envy and Deceit. Bottom, a resident of Tournai hands the city key to a female personification of unity among the Allies. Right, a cartouche with a description of the events in German.
