About this work

Lament of the South Sea Company, 1720. The female personification of the South Sea Company with her children lying among books of debt on a sofa. Against a background of books labeled: "Library of a Sorrowful Shareholder." With small scenes of other failed enterprises; in the upper left, shares are being farted out by a man. Below the image is a caption with a three-column verse printed from a separate plate. Print in the bound fourth edition (304 B 12) of *Het Groote Tafereel der Dwaasheid* with satirical prints on the Wind Trade or Share Trade of 1720.
