Strip of bobbin lace with hanging flower and comma-shaped motif

Strip of natural-colored bobbin lace: Valenciennes lace. The repeating pattern consists of a hanging flower on a curved stem with an upward curling side branch at the top. Between the successive flowers lies a comma-shaped motif. The motifs are placed close together and are connected by a fine lattice ground, a net ground. The motifs are made in linen stitch with some large cut-outs and thicker contour threads. Some decorative grounds have been applied, including in the comma-shaped motif and the flower heart. The upper edge is finished straight. The scalloped lower edge results from the pattern and is finished with picots.
