Strip of bobbin lace with a branch lying above an openwork oval

Strip of natural-colored bobbin lace: Valenciennes lace. The repeating pattern consists for the upper half of the strip of a row of loose twigs with between them a configuration of four square knots. The lower half of the pattern consists of a row of lying twigs, with on both sides two small flowers and in the middle on both sides two curling leaves. The lower leaf forms an openwork oval along the lower edge of the strip. The motifs are connected by a fine lattice ground, a net ground. The motifs are made in linen stitch, with thicker, shiny contour threads. In the ovals along the lower edge a decorative ground has been applied. The knots and decorations in some flower hearts are made in buttonhole stitch. The upper edge of the strip is finished straight. The slightly scalloped lower edge is finished with picots.
