Strip of Bobbin Lace Cartouches between Diagonally Placed Twisted Bands

Strip of natural-colored Brussels bobbin lace. The pattern consists of three arches of obliquely placed twisted bands crowned by a lobed cartouche and connected at the bottom by a bell-shaped cartouche. After the three arches the twisted bands change into linked ovals that also form an arch and are crossed by flowers and leaves from the underside of the strip. In each arch hangs a flower branch downwards from the cartouche. Between the arches hang three loose flower branches. The motifs are largely made in linen stitch with openwork edges, but otherwise with few openings. Some flower hearts and petals and the like are made in net stitch. Most motifs are provided with bobbin-worked relief contours. The motifs are connected to each other by a fine lattice ground, a drochel ground. As ornamental ground, among others, fine snowflake grounds are applied in the twisted bands and in the cartouches and between the flower branches picoted braids. The top edge is straight finished.
