Strip of Needle Lace with Pointed Ovals and Flower Pots

Strip of natural-coloured needle lace: Argentella lace. Pattern with a regularly wavy garland featuring a zigzag line, flower branches, cartouches and flower pots. The garland forms whole and half pointed ovals; the whole oval contains a flower branch with three flowers, the half oval a cartouche with flowers and leaves. Motifs in the ovals alternate in two variations. The pattern along the lower edge consists of rocaille cartouches between which hangs a flower pot with a large daisy-like flower. Motifs are connected by various grounds, including diamond ground with partridge eyes characteristic of Argentella lace, rosettes of hexagons and Alençon meshes with beads. In addition to the grounds, solid work with openings fills the flowers, leaves and garland. Upper edge edged with a border of bobbin lace. Slightly scalloped lower border.
