About this work

Strip of natural-coloured needle lace with a regular scatter motif of downward-hanging flower branches, small circles and S-shapes, on a fine hexagonal mesh ground. The pattern at the lower side consists of two double rows with arches, which are filled with various ornamental grounds. Between these two double rows a repeating motif can be seen of: an oval filled with ornamental ground; an S-shape and a downward-hanging flower branch. The upper side is edged with a border of bobbin lace. A very finely picoted scalloped border is the finish at the lower side. Alençon lace.
