Strip of bobbin lace with reserves and poppy heads and flowers

Strip of natural-coloured bobbin lace: Mechelen lace. The repeating pattern consists of a reserve, intersected by a branch with poppy heads and poppy flowers. Along the lower edge lie two reserves next to each other, with different fillings and framed by linked leaves and pointed ovals. In the middle between the two reserves a branch with three flowers, each with six oval petals, springs forth. The motifs are connected by a fine mesh ground. Decorative grounds with coarser meshes are applied in the reserves. The motifs are made in linen stitch with few cut-outs and with thick contour threads. The slightly scalloped lower edge is finished with picots. Along the straight upper edge a strip of tulle is sewn.
