Batiste Handkerchief with an Embroidered Ribbon in One Corner Bearing the Name 'Julie' and a Border of Drawn Thread Work and Bobbin Lace

Handkerchief of natural-colored batiste with embroidery - white work - and all around a border work with drawn threads and a border of bobbin lace: Mechlin lace. Square model with rounded corners due to the lace that is gathered at the corners. The embroidery is in one corner and concerns two leaves and a branch with forget-me-nots, around which lies a decorated ribbon. On the ribbon stands 'Julie'. The work with drawn threads lies as a decorative band along the fairly wide hems along the edges of the batiste. This open needlework shows a striped pattern and on the corners a square grid. The lace strip is sewn smoothly onto the handkerchief with the exception around the corners. The repeating pattern consists along the underside of the strip of a lying bending stem with a whimsical flower and leaf attached. Between the flowers the stem forms a trapezoidal cartouche, above which hangs a loose whimsical flower. The motifs are made in linen stitch with thicker and shiny outline threads.
