About this work

Japanese strip of Brussels applied lace: Brussels duchesse (mixed lace: bobbin lace combined with needle lace) applied on machine-made tulle. The repeating pattern consists at the upper side of the strip of a hanging flower branch with large flowers (a bunch of lilacs, a rose and a branch with two morning glory flowers) with ribbons winding along the top (needle lace) with a bow on either side of the hanging flower branch. The pattern at the lower side consists of a wavy decorative border that moves through each other overlapping oval medallions or 'hoops'. The hoops create a semi-circular scalloped edge. Around each wave top an interruption in the sequence of hoops where a flower bouquet with among others a tulip, a daisy, a rose and forget-me-nots stands.
