About this work
Strip of natural-colored bobbin lace: Mechelen lace. Under a scattered pattern of four rows of hearts runs a loose zigzag line, with under each zigzag valley a pinecone-shaped motif that hangs down to the underside of the strip. Between the pinecone motifs lies an openwork decorative border along the underside of the strip, decorated with blocks made in formwork. The motifs are connected to each other by a fine mesh ground, a Mechelen ground. The sparse solid work is made in linen stitch with thicker and shiny contour threads. The top and underside of the strip are finished straight, whereby the underside is provided with picots.
