Strip of needle lace with flower vase in which branches form a V and a kidney-shaped cartouche

Strip of natural-colored needle lace: Youghal lace. The repeating pattern consists of two almost symmetrical compositions that flow into each other. One composition consists of a flower vase set between two mirrored faintly S-shaped feathered leaves. In the vase stand two branches placed in V-shape, between which a rosette flower with ten pointed oval petals. At the bottom of each branch a similar flower cuts across the edge of the vase. The other composition consists of a more or less kidney-shaped cartouche formed by two mirrored curling flower branches with a hanging leaf. The field is closed at the bottom of the strip by a rosette flower flanked by two palmette flowers. Diagonally above each palmette flower a pomegranate. The motifs are made with festoon stitches with many cutouts and are accented by contour threads with varying relief. In the motifs a great variety of decorative stitches and decorative grounds are applied.
