Strip of natural-colored needlepoint lace: Argentan lace. Pattern with almost symmetrical compositions including an oval cartouche in which a flower hangs down. And a wide U-shaped field in which a flower hangs down in a heart-shaped flowerpot. Both the cartouche and the U-shaped field are formed by ornamental bands and flower vines with different sized and some smaller flowers between acanthus leaves and leaf volutes. Along the underside lie rocaille-like motifs. The motifs are built up from festoon stitches with cutouts and provided with relief contours. The motifs are connected to each other by a festooned hexagonal ground. Various coarser and finer ornamental grounds are applied, including a coarse hexagonal mesh ground with dense hexagonal motifs in every mesh. The irregular scalloped edge is finished with picots. The upper side of the strip is finished straight with a cutwork band.
