Strip of Mixed Lace with Large Flowers

Strip of natural-colored mixed lace: bobbin lace with needle lace additions and a needle lace ground, a gauze lace ground. This type of lace is also known as point d'Angleterre. The repeating pattern consists of large flowers linked together across the full width of the strip. Notable are the thick cords of widely festooned thread bundles, used especially around the flower centers. Other finer relief contours around the motifs are made with a thread thicker than that used for the motifs. The top edge is finished with a border of bobbin lace. The short sides of the strip are finished, with two brass hooks attached on one side and two brass eyes on the other.
