About this work

Long palm shawl, woven of wool and silk, with a black ground and green, yellow and red ends with beige pomegranates in narrow strips of white. The pattern is symmetrical around the cross axes. Along the edge of the plain part stand straight inward-facing flower motifs, alternately small and large, on red palmettes. The large ones have two backward-leaning pomegranates as ground rosette, flanked by two straight-standing finer pomegranates. On the wide cross seams stand on a partly red, partly green ground two large, backward-leaning and turned-away pomegranates in beige, with plain white line contour. The pointed top of the pomegranates goes halfway the pear shape (dating clue). From each pomegranate grows at the bottom a small pomegranate in yellow, to which many branches grow with volutes, to which flowers and even smaller pomegranates even cut the border. The narrow white border is full of flowers and has only an outer hem line in beige, with mock embroidery stitch.
