About this work

Strip of natural-coloured bobbin lace, Valenciennes lace. Running along the centre line of the strip is a zigzag line of linked circles and openwork ovals. The zigzag line is made in a mesh ground, a diamond-shaped Valenciennes ground. The motifs are made in linen stitch with openwork edges that run outside the thicker contour threads. Contour threads are atypical for Valenciennes lace. In the openwork centre of the ovals, three holes are formed by crossing pairs. The upper and lower edges of the strip are finished straight.
