Folding fan, consisting of a paper leaf painted in gouache with 'The Judgment of Paris' on a mother-of-pearl mount à jour and in relief carved with 'métal en quatre couleurs'. In the central representation Paris sits on a rock and holds a shepherd's staff in his left hand and offers the golden apple to Venus with his right hand. Behind Paris on the left stands Hermes with his characteristic staff in his hand. To the right of Venus, with Amor on her left side, stands Athena with helmet and spear, and Juno sits on a rock with the peacock. On the left in the foreground two putti play with a sheep. The representation is surrounded by flower garlands, fruits and gold-coloured ornaments. In the upper left corner a medallion with an elegant young woman dressed in a blue dress and with a blue hat on her head. In the upper right corner a medallion with an elegant young man with powdered hair and a queue with a black bow, a pink-red frock coat under a grey waistcoat and a white shirt.
