Strip of bobbin lace with a rose motif

Strip of natural-colored bobbin lace: Mechelen lace. Under a scatter pattern of double leaves stands along the lower edge of the strip a repeating pattern of a hanging rose sprig. The flower has five petals on one side of the flower heart. Each flower hangs in a half-round shell. A short branch with a three-leaf cluster is directed upwards. The motifs are connected by a fine mesh ground, the Mechelen ground. The motifs are mainly formed by differing openings in the mesh ground, with thicker and shiny contour threads worked around them. Very sparing linen stitch is used in the motifs, decorated with loops. The upper edge of the strip is straight finished. The scalloped edge along the lower edge of the strip is finished with picots.
