Strip of needle lace with mushrooms

Strip of natural-colored needle lace: Alençon lace. Under a scattering pattern of three rows of hanging flower branches the repeating and continuous pattern along the underside of the strip consists of mushrooms, alternated with a sparse volute with in the center a circle crowned by a standing oval. The shell edge is formed by fan-shaped motifs, one under each mushroom. The fans are connected by a string of three circles with wheel picots in them. The motifs are connected by a fine hexagonal mesh ground, an Alençon ground with raised buttonhole stitches. The sparse solid work is made with buttonhole stitches, the motifs are provided with relief contours. Several different fine decorative grounds are applied in the motifs in the pattern at the underside of the strip. The upper side of the strip is finished with a separately buttonholed band. The shells along the underside are finished with picots.
