About this work

Fichu of silk, triangular, edged on two sides with a band embroidered with floral motifs in metal thread. Decoration: in the point a stem with leaves crowned by a palmette, flanked on both sides by large leaf shapes continuing as a scroll along the edge. The scrolls are filled with downward-pointing flower calices and are alternated with leafy vines and three-leaf clovers. The embroidery is built up from stem stitches, needle lace stitches, and buttonhole stitches (along the scallops and shells). The metal thread is wound around a canary-yellow silk core and consists partly of canetille.
