Strip of needle lace with double diagonal lines and leafy branches

Strip of natural-coloured needle lace, Argentan lace. Pattern with an alternating of diagonal lines with hanging leaf branches over the full width on a fine ground with hexagonal meshes which are closely sewn with buttonhole stitch. The rhythm of the pattern is as follows: a double diagonal line of triple circles; a branch with three-fingered leaves; a diagonal line of a dozen scattered rosette flowers; a branch with pear-shaped leaves. The pattern along the underside consists of a double, slightly wavy vine with heart-shaped leaves on both sides. These vines are interrupted by the diagonal lines. Between the vines a still finer mesh ground. Solid work with minimal cutouts in all leaves. Shell border at the underside by a string of small heart-shaped and oval leaves, partly originating from the vine pattern. The upper side is edged with a border of bobbin lace.
