About this work
Strip of natural-colored needle lace: Alençon lace. The repeating pattern consists of a stag chased by dogs. The animals are surrounded by vines with various flowers. The motifs are composed of buttonhole stitches with cutouts and feature relief contours. The motifs are connected by a fine hexagonal mesh ground, an Alençon ground, with cross-worked meshes. Some spaces between the vines are filled with decorative grounds. The scalloped upper side originates from the pattern with the flower vines and is finished with very fine picots. The underside is edged with a bobbin lace border.
