Strip of needle lace with flower vases in cartouches

Strip of natural-colored needlepoint lace: Sedan lace. The repeating pattern consists of different forms of vases, each in a cartouche of feathered leaves. Each vase is crowned by one rosette flower, but is further decorated in different ways. The motifs are built up from festoon stitches with cutouts and some motifs or parts of motifs are provided with relief contours. The motifs are connected to each other by festooned and picoted bars, which are arranged in series of hexagons. Various ornamental stitches are applied, particularly in the vases and flowers. The irregular scalloped edge is derived from the pattern and is finished with picots. The upper side of the strip is finished straight with a cutwork band.
